This illusive scene was captured on the summer solstice under a full moon just as the sun was setting. It is an event that
occurs only once every hundred years. Hopefully during your lifetime. This photo is available as a fine art photographic
limited edition print at:

FEATURES: Riparian hike. The most photographed spot in the world. A turn of the century ranch with water wheel.
LEVEL: Easy to Easy-Moderate.
HIKING TIME: Approximately two hours roundtrip. It
incorporates two different trails into one hike, and is
accessible to hikers of all levels. DRIVING TIME FROM THE INTERSECTION OF 89A AND SR 179: About twenty minutes.
DESCRIPTION: This hike can be done in individual segments or as one extended
route. It is one of a handful of riparian hikes that parallels Oak Creek. It begins at an official trailhead, crosses Oak Creek and wanders through an exquisite riparian area for over a mile. On the return of the first segment it again crosses the creek, and parallels it on the west bank (you will pass the area where the photograph above was taken). It then meanders through fields of cairns in a vortex area. On the way back, you will have the opportunity to see the way people lived in the west a hundred years ago (take a look at the photo below). This hike is perfect for families. Two parts of the hike connect with a very popular trail so you will most likely see other hikers, however about half of
this route is an unofficial trail that affords a much less crowded environment. Trust me, if you miss this one because of crowd avoidance you will regret it. The reason it is so popular is because there is no other place like it-- anywhere. This is a must see!
