FEATURES: Panoramic vistas, an arch and natural rock
sculptures such as Indian Skull Rock and tree sculptures
like Twisted Sister. The spookiest of Sedona hikes. In
certain light and weather it is apparent why I call this Vulture Hike. With the shadows and eerie natural features
one can sometimes feel like one is hiking in the valley
of death. So for those who have an inclination for the macabre this is a don't miss adventure. Also, it's a good summer hike since it is primarily
shaded. The canyon trail is easy but this hike has an
enticing option for the experienced and ambitious.
LEVEL: Easy-Moderate to Moderate (with optional trail) HIKING TIMES: Two hours roundtrip for the canyon leg. Add an extra 40 minutes if you choose the option which is
suggested only for the experienced hiker. DISTANCE FROM CITY OF SEDONA: 13 miles. In good weather a four wheel drive vehicle is not necessary however low clearance vehicles are not suggested. Five miles on dirt road.
DESCRIPTION: It is any easy to follow trail that
parallels a seasonal stream. It gradually gains
altitude, as it weaves through a secluded wilderness canyon. The only tricky part of the trail is at the end of the canyon if you choose the option of climbing to the arch. There is no official trail for that leg however the photos make it easy to navigate to the arch.
