FEATURES: A secluded canyon. From the back rim, there are views to the southwest. One of the best preserved Indian Ruins in the area. LEVEL: Moderate
HIKING TIME: Approximately 45 minutes to the ruin.
DRIVING TIME FROM SEDONA: About twenty minutes from the City limits.
DESCRIPTION: This is not an official Forest Service
route nor is there a trail. This hike follows a wash
framed by canyon walls. It is a pretty easy hike as wash
hikes go, with not much boulder hopping. The reward at
the end of the canyon is one of the best preserved
Indian ruins in the area. If this hike had not been
previously published I would not have included it in
this book, and I do so with a request. Please respect
this site. To some it is considered sacred. To others it
is a unique treasure filled with history. It is also
against the law to desecrate such sites or to take
anything from them- i.e. pot shards. Most importantly I will relate an event that shaped my view of these areas when I was only nine years old. My uncle and his two sons were exploring an area where they came upon a rather unique site that had been despoiled by pot hunters. Close by they found a skull that had been pierced by a bullet hole. The
desecration of the site most likely had nothing to do with the violent remains they had discovered. But an Arizona homily to the wise-- "Don't mess around with things you don't understand." Be respectful and enjoy this most marvelous of hikes.
